COURSE DESCRIPTION: The purpose of this course is to train entry-level referee volunteers in the basic skills required to officiate in AYSO matches in accordance with the IFAB Laws of the Game (LOTG) and AYSO National Rules & Regulations. The emphasis is on 10U players’ small-sided games. The course constitutes the training portion of the certification requirements for an AYSO Regional Referee. In addition to registration as a volunteer in the local program, the requirements are:
- Minimum age requirement: 12 years old.
- Prior to the class, please make sure to:
- Register as a volunteer.
- All volunteer referees need to be registered with AYSO.
- Please complete/update your parent volunteer registration information on your Family Profile on in https://www.ayso443.org if you are a La Quinta candidate, otherwise log in into your region's website profile.
- You also need to complete the online Safe Haven and CDC Concussion courses (free to all volunteers) which can be found on your etrainu account under your volunteer.
- This will be classroom and field training mechanics for referees and assistant referees, so please make sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes.
- There will be a written exam to complete at the end.

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER YOU HAVE VOLUNTEERED: Background Check- You should have already received an invitation fromTheAdvocates@SterlingVolunteers.com.Please follow the link to complete your Background Check ASAP.Due to County, State and Federal reporting, Background Check Processing can take up to 10 business days.Self disclosures can add an additional 5 business days.
Access to Training- You will access the training system from this page by clicking the "AYSOU" button next to your volunteer record.You will be automatically logged in to the training system.
Safesport- to access your FREE training, that will update your AYSO status, please use this link to enroll: https://safesporttrained.org/?KeyName=tsVWe36Xa6PS3b5NzOug.You do not need to upload your Safesport results unless you are supplying a completed certificate from July 1, 2021 - December 31, 2021.Safesport will automatically update your profile, generally within 2 hours of completion.
Note: Youth Volunteers (anyone under the age of majority in your state) arenot requiredto take this training.
Additional Users- If you invited an Additional or Secondary User to your account, or you are the Additional User you must accept the invitation sent via email from Sports Connect and create your own username and password.To access training, the Additional User will need to login to their own Sports Connect account and follow the steps above.
Per California law effective January 1, 2022 every regular volunteer must have a live scan background check done through the California DOJ.Our volunteers must do this through AYSO. The cost is $25 and as of right now the only location open and taking our applications is the UPS Store in Palm Springs. You must apply thru the link below.
